Walking Bus to Beachley Barracks

On Wednesday 11 June 2014 Offa's Mead Academy will join tens of thousands of kids march for road safety from their school gates in Brake's annual Giant Walking Bus for primary schools. This brilliant event raises awareness of the dangers of traffic and how cool it is to walk. A big thank you to the parents and members of the Battalion who are volunteering to help keep everyone safe on our huge walk!

Kids take part in this giant march for a giant reason: to say no to driving fast, and yes to walking! The UK has a poor record for protecting children on foot compared to many of our European neighbours. Half our kids are driven to school, increasing pollution and danger, and affecting health. For taking part, we get a free resource pack to help promote road safety.

We will walk to Beachley Barracks at 9:30 and spend some time playing games and and having a well-deserved snack and a drink before walking back for lunch! Please make sure your child wears Academy uniform and comfortable footwear to walk in. Depending on the weather, please ensure they also have a waterproof coat/ sun cream and sun hat. Please provide snack as usual and a plastic bottle of water, squash or juice (no fizzy drinks or glass bottles).
